Kathleen Hensch-Fleming
Kathleen Hensch-Fleming, RN, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP), Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Menopause Clinician.
Kathleen has worked in the field of women’s health for over 31 years. Her career has included positions as a registered nurse, OB department manager, County Commissioner, director of Women’s Services in a large tertiary care hospital, Certified Nurse Midwife and Certified Menopause Clinician. Along the way she has delivered 2,470 babies.
In 2000 she co-created Pacific Midwifery Service as the first and only independent midwifery practice in Southwest Washington. The goal that was set (and that is met every day) is to provide quality, personalized, professional health care to women who want to participate in their own care. As a midwife, her emphasis is on teaching and knowing, thus alleviating fears, whether the procedure is a pap smear or a birth.
Kathleen’s love and wonder for the birthing process is evident in her passionate approach. “It was not hard to get up in the middle of the night to go to a birthday party!” She sang ‘ Happy Birthday’ at every birth. She has preached the passion for WATERBIRTH for 10 years, and has delivered hundreds of SW Washington women in the water during that time, both at Southwest Washington Medical Center and Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital. She ‘retired’ from delivering babies in 2010 when she reached the age of 60 completing 31 years of obstetric service.
Now she devotes her energy full time to full scope women’s health care specializing in Menopause treatment. Kathleen constantly refreshes her knowledge of menopause and symptom management, from personal experience and ongoing education. Her compassion for women in menopause allows her to create individual plans for each woman based on their needs and tests. Her “bag of tricks” includes coordinating hormones, herbs and bio-identical hormones. She has survived her own menopause and has 7 sisters of menopause age… she has probably heard your story before! She has completed the training for Menopause Clinician and updates her information and resources daily.
Kathleen is married with two grown daughters and a grown stepson. She has 6 grandchildren. She also has a quilting business ‘on the side’, has completed the Portland Marathon in 2006 and 2007, and loves to walk and garden. She is a fiber artist, expressing herself in quilting and in her exquisite silk scark paintings!
